Sharpening Your Sight: Get a Comprehensive Eye Test in Colchester

We like to think that we rank amongst the best Colchester Opticians. As such we carry out an awful lot of eye-tests in a week and we are proud to say that here in Colchester Eye Test techniques have advanced considerably since those plastic eye test charts you may recall from school medicals. These days a comprehensive eye test will provide valuable information not just about your vision but about your general health too.

Obviously, the most obvious reason to make an appointment with our Colchester opticians is to make sure that your vision really is as good as you think. All of us age, and as we do so it is inevitable that many people will experience a deterioration in the quality of their eyesight. However for many this eyesight deterioration is extremely gradual – so gradual that many people simply do not notice it is happening.

As a result there are an alarming number of people who are currently driving cars on UK streets utterly unaware that their sight would not now pass the vision requirements of a driving test. Could you be one of them? If you are shaking your head, are you sure? If you find yourself struggling to read the text on your TV it would probably be a very good idea to call us and book an eye test.

Ensuring your vision is sharp and clear, or prescribing the appropriate corrective lenses when it is not is only the start of the ways we can help. Our Colchester Opticians offer much more than just good vision. We also use our cutting edge eye test technology to check for signs of Glaucoma. This is a potentially serious eye condition which can be active in the eye for a long time before it causes any noticeable symptoms.

Without a regular eye test the issue it is unlikely that Glaucoma would be spotted until the patient had already experienced some degree of irreversible loss of vision. By then treating glaucoma is very challenging and may even require surgical intervention. This is why it is so important to get a regular eye check. Our comprehensive eye tests always check eyeball pressure. High pressure is a key early indicator of glaucoma and can alert you to the problem long begore you would otherwise notice anything.

Glaucoma is far from being the only potentially serious issue that a comprehensive eye test can pick up. There is a surprisingly wide range of conditions which are not generally associated with vision that can also be picked up by a comprehensive eye examination. Our comprehensive eye tests utilise advanced “optical coherence tomography”. This takes a very high resolution and massively magnified image of the retina and the tiny blood vessels located at the very back of the eye.

This gives us a greatly magnified view of the capillary vessels at the back of the eye. Deviations in these vessels can be early indicators of potentially life changing conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol which a patient might not have known about, giving them an opportunity to seek further medical advice and treatment before serious damage is done.

So come and get a comprehensive eye test with our opticians in Colchester. You will leave not just with sharp, clear vision. You will also leave with the peace of mind that comes from knowing the state of your general health. We see your eyes as the window on your world, but also as our window on your general health. Come and see us to discover what your eyes can reveal.
